The mission was held as part of the events celebrating Wole Soyinka at 80years. Profesorr Wole Soyinka is one of the founders of the National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity), organisers of the NAS Medical Mission.
The opening ceremony featured welcome address by the MD of State Hospital, Dr Olumade. A lecture on Alcoholism and epilepsy was presented by Dr Segun Bammeke. Flyers and posters on the issue of epilepsy and alchoholism was distributed across the town to raise awareness.
The anticipated full participation of medical doctors working in Isara State hospital nearly marred the mission as much time and effort was made to get clearance from Nigerian Medical Association as the officers initially misconstrued it to be a sabotage of NMA strike in public hospitals. Medical Mission team were able to rectify this situation.
- 557 patients were treated.
- 69 patients were given reading glasses.
